Dr. Gabriele M. Goszcz
Dr. Gabriele Goszcz was born in Germany and immigrated to the US at the age of six. She earned her undergraduate degree from Smith College and then a Master of Social Work degree form the Smith College School for Social Work. After a 12-year career in Psychiatric and School Social Work, Dr. Goszcz attended the New England College of Optometry in Boston where she was President of the Optometric Honor Society. She received awards for excellence and innovation for her work with homebound handicapped and geriatric patients who would otherwise be unable to receive much-needed eyecare. Dr. Goszcz has been practicing Optometry at the current Auburn location since 1989.
Dr. Goszcz’s dual Social Work and Optometric education and careers give her a unique perspective on the care of special needs children and adults.
She has been a lecturer at the New England College of Optometry. Her commitment to the community is evidenced in her involvement with local groups. She has served on the Auburn Senior Center Board of Directors, Auburn Youth and Family Services Advisory Board. The office provides eye examinations free of charge through the Vision USA Program designed for needy families without insurance and through local charitable groups. Dr. Goszcz has been involved with VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity) providing free eyecare to Mayan Indians in the Yucatan where medical services are often nonexistent. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Worcester Art Museum and is an enthusiastic supporter of their many programs.
Dr. Goszcz is married to Douglas Crawford and together they share the hobbies of beekeeping and tending to their two dogs and two cats. She is the very proud mother of two wonderful married sons, Raphael and Christopher. Raphael, his wife Alison and their beautiful daughter Nathalie Anne, born in July 2010, live in Villanova, PA. He is an executive at Dow Chemical and she is a Physician. Christopher is an Optometrist in practice with his mother, Dr. Goszcz. He and his wife Emily, a High School Art Teacher, have a son Gideon, born August 2011. Dr. Goszcz also has a step-daughter, Kim, who has 2 cute children named J.D. and Charlotte.
